So tonight is the 113 Civil War game between the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers.
This is the first time in the history of the game that the winner is guaranteed to go to the Rose Bowl !!!!!!!
I as you know by now am a HUGE Duck fan !!!!!!!!
For the last few years I have been telling my friends, - in a perfect world wouldn't it be great that the winner of the Civil War would win the PAC-10 and go to the Rose Bowl.
Never did I think it would happen this year, not with the way that the season started for both teams.
So now the day is finally here, and I am so ready for the game, I just don't know how I am gonna make it thru the day.
On my way to work today, all I could think about was this game and how I used to watch all the big games with my dad. If my dad was still here, there is no doubt that I would be with him tonight watching this great game. I know that he will be watching tonight and I know that he is here with me in spirit.
So I will pour myself a few adult beverages tonight, watch the game and talk to my dad, because I know he is listening and he watching right there with me.
GO DUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY DAY NOVEMBER 4TH
Well, so today is my birthday, good old November 4th as rolled around again. mY I wasn't gonna blog today, but my cousin asked for one ,so I thought why not ??
So today I turned 46, do I feel 46 ?? Do I look it- well I will let you make that decision.
I don't know what I am supposed to feel like at 46. I feel good, I feel young, sure I do have some aches and pains now and then, but hey, doesn't everybody ?
I am very happy with my life , I am married to a wonderful woman and have two wonderful children that keep me young and active. If you know me, you know that I prefer to look at the wonderful things that I have and not worry about things I don't have.
With me the glass is always 3/4 full when I look at it.
I have a great job, many great friends , a great Mom and wonderful brother and a super sister, and I had the most amazing dad that anyone could ever hope for.
So people have asked me all day- what are your plans for tonight ? doing anything special /
So, what am I doing tonight on my birthday ?? Well I am taking my kids to piano, then dropping one off at basketball, then going with my other daughter to our own basketball practice( I coach her team) , then after that, I will go home for awhile and then head out to pick up our oldest daughter after her soccer practice- ( which she will be at, thanks to my wife picking her up after basketball and taking her to soccer)- then head home.
A busy night you might say, but to my it is wonderful, I get to spend time with my family and particapate in sports with one of my daughters. So yes, I am a lucky man and my birthday is AWESOME !!!!!!!!! and so is my life

Grandma turns 91
Well on saturday, my grandmother-- Dorothy Campbell turned 91 !!
She is an amazing woman. I have never seen my grandma get mad or say a bad thing about anyone in my entire life. She has 7, yes 7 children that are all still alive and are wonderful aunts and uncles.
Dorothy is well known in Gladstone for the many lives that she touched over the years. Her and grandpa Ed always took in troubled youths as far back as the late fifites. She never judges anyone, she gives so much love and never, ever asks for it in return. I am so lucky to have her as my grandma.
She is my inspiration for helping people and how she treats everyone. So here's hoping that next October we get to celebrate her 92nd birthday !!
Happy Birthday Grandma
I LOVE YOU

MANY THINGS-- SOCCER- NEW FRIENDS AND TACOS
Well last night the soccer team I coach won again, 6-0.. That leaves our season record at 6-0, with 36 goals scored and only 5 against us. I have some amazing little soccer players on the team. It is a U-9 girls rec team and let me tell you, the one thing they have that you cannot teach is that they are so aggresive !! They just want to get the ball and score some goals.
I am very lucky to get to coach these girls and it is alot of fun.
So after the game we went to Gloriaz for TACO TUESDAY, which we have been doing lately after our Tuesday night games. We started doing this with the Moe's, and then the Alberts started to come with us also and last night we had the Engstrom's join us. It was a great time and it is just nice to get to sit down for a minute and meet new people that could turn out to be new friends. I am always looking to meet new people and make new friends. My wife and I have been getting to know the Moe's a little better this summer and early fall. Glen and Jeanette are nice people, easy to hang out with and just some cool people in general. Now Glen cracks me up.
Glen is so out of touch with technology that is comedy. He doesn't use a debit card, has no facebook page and basically is just old, old, old school. Which is totally cool and makes him refreshing and his takes on life are just awesome. So we were all talking last night and Aaron Engstrom brings up that he plays mafia wars on facebook and then makes a funny comment about it and Glen just busts out laughing. Now remember, Glen doesn't facebook so he has no idea what Aaron is talking about, but he laughs anyways. So I call him out on it and say- dude, you don't even know what mafia wars is and Glen being Glenn, then starts laughing even harder. PRICELESS !! The dude cracks me up. He doesn't take himself or life to serious and is always good for a few laughs a day.
I think that as people get older they make less of an attempt to make new friends, I totally disagree with this attitude and I look forward to meeting new people and hopefully making some new friends. You just have to get out there and keep on living.
So enjoy your day, laugh a little today , love a little and make an effort to meet new people, you never know , that new person that you just met could turn out to be a life long friend.
Remember- the glass is half full, not half empty, so fill er up and make it a full glass and a full life !!!!

Changes and New Beginnings
Well it has been a while since I blogged. Got busy with summer, soccer, trade shows, school starting and a convention. But now hopefully things will settle down and trust me, that would be a welcome change.. It has been a pretty rough few weeks for my wife. I really can't get into it right now, other than to say that she had people betray her and she didn't see it coming at all.
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can get into it more, but out of respect for her, I will not at this time.
So because of the things that have happened, the family is now checking out other churches and looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends.
Friends- a good subject. In the past few weeks my wife and I have really found out who are friends are and who the pretenders were. We are very lucky in that we have lots of great friends and they have given us great support. We know that it will all work out in the long run and we will come out of this in a better place.
I have so much more that I want to say, but I just can't at this time.
Have a great day and make sure you tell your friends how really important that they are to you.

Congrats !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today I want to send out a congratulations today to my best friend, Rob Saldivar. Rob and I have been best friends for too many years to count. Well enough of that, the reason I am blogging about him is that his company, R & R Catering landed the contract to do all the catering for the luxury suites at Fed Ex Field, which is the home of the NFL Washington Redskins.
Not only did his company beat out many competitors for this, he also starting today is catering to the Redskins training camp. Rob has been in the catering business for over 20 years and he has put in a lot of hard work and long hours to make his company successful. Over the years he has had to make many sacrifices to get his company where it is today. For that I applaud him and congratulate him. Well done my friend, well done.
You deserve all that you have worked for and I wish you and your company nothing but success this year and the many years to come.

WONDERFUL, FUN AND SOMETIMES FRUSTRATIN
Parenting, that is what I am talking about today people. If you are a parent, you know what I am talking about, sometimes it can be fun and sometimes it can be very frustrating. I am a Step-Dad to two wonderful little girls who I love so much and have changed my life completly.
This year makes it five years that I have been their step-dad and they have been a wonderful five years. I have learned alot from them and I am still learning. They have taught me patience, which I admit, I still do have a ways to go, but I am working on it. I really enjoy being around them, watching them grow and being involved in their lives. They live with us full time and see their dad every now and then. I love having them around, but I do admit I like the break of a child-free weekend or week ( during the summer) that we get every now and then. The funny thing is after like 2 or 3 days I begin to miss them terribly and the house as you can imagine is alot quieter with out a 10 year old and an 8 year old running around.
One of the great things about having the girls, is that they got me into coaching sports, and if you didn't know it - I LOVE SPORTS !!!! and I have discovered that I really enjoy coaching.
It all started with soccer last year, continued with basketball and then of course it was softball.
It will continue again this fall with me coaching my youngest daughter is soccer again and I am really looking forward to it.
Of course if you have kids you also know that they can be very frustrating and drive you ablsolutley crazy sometimes. Last night for example, the youngest accidently hung on the nbrand new towel rack in the kids bathroom and yes , you guessed it, tore it out of the wall . Those of you who know, know that we just moved back into our house after being out of it for almost 5 months because of the house fire. So everything is brand new, including new paint.
So now we have to get the wall patched and re-painted. Of course she did not mean to do this and she would never , ever , ever admit it was her fault ( because nothing is ever her fault ).
So in the past I would have proabably lost my mind, but this time I did not. I know it was an accident and that there will be more accidents in the future.
My girls and yes, I totally consider them my children, bring me a ton of joy. There is nothing like watching their faces light up when they are happy. You cannot put a price on that . Sometimes they say things that just crack me up without evey trying. So I consider my self very lucky to be their dad and to get to watch them grow up and to be a part of their lives.
Enjoy your children while you can, love them and just spend some quality time with them and then the wonderful and fun times will far out number the frustrating times.

HOT HOT HOT- TOO HOT
So, here in the Portland, OR area we are in a severe heat wave, the last time it was this hot for this long was way back in 1981 ( the good ol days). For those of you who don't live in the pacific northwest, we are in the middle of 3 straight days of over 100 degrees !!
I like nice weather, don't get me wrong, but seriously, I do not need 100 degree weather, let's keep it around 80 to 85- with a slight breeze-- that is perfect weather to me !!
So with the hot temps things change, like my daughter's soccer practice that was scheduled for last night at 6:30 pm , because of the extreme temps it was cancelled. Know one wants to put kids in danger because of the weather. It was in the 90's all weekend and we were at a soccer tournament with NO SHADE anywhere to be found, it made for a long day friday, saturday and even sunday.
See most of us up here like nice weather, but almost nobody likes it this hot . It just makes it unbearable for outdoor activites. On monday night it was still 90 degrees at 10pm and it was 70 degrees at 5 am this morning, that is rare. Then I have this one friend who is planning a trip to Vegas for late August. I told her she must be crazy, who in their right mind wants to go to Vegas when it will be like 107 every day that time of year. I mean, yes you can hang at the pool but after a while, even that gets too hot for this dude. But she did spend most of her youth in Arizona, so maybe she can handle it better than I would. I am not bashing Vegas, I am just saying that I would never go there that time of year, but to each it's own and I am sure she will have a great time with her family.
Besides this heat wave we are having excellent weather this summer. It has been great, most of the summer it has been in the 80's and low 90's.
So we will all deal with this heat wave for a few more days, then it should be back in the mid 80's next week, which as you know is perfect for me.
So stay cool, hydrate and enjoy every day !!!!!!!!!

GLASS HALF FULL & MORE
We all know that expression- Glass half full or Glass half empty. So which type of person are you ? Those of you that know me, know that I am a glass half full person. I just have always looked on the bright side of things and I just have a belief that everything will work out. Does it always work out and go the way I want it to. NO, it does not.. But I do not let it get me down, I just keep moving on. I just choose to not let every little thing ruin my day. Of course there are things that do knock me down and take the wind out of my sails, I am human. I do laugh, I do cry , I do make mistakes- lots of them, but that's life.
We all need to laugh more, to cry more and to let our emotions move us each day. I think that too many people are worried what other people think of them. To an extent most of do care what people think about us, we all want to be liked, but the truth is that , not everyone likes everyone. I am sure that I have friends that my wife doesn't appreciate them in the same way that I do and vice versa. There is nothing wrong with that, it is good to have different friends, just because your married does not mean that you have to both like the same people.
I do not like to hang out with negative people, life is too short for negative thinking and negative people. You know the people that I am talking about, the one's that have nothing but drama over and over and over. Those are the half empty people, the one's that always beleive the worst is about to happen or that nothing every goes their way. That whole attitude just wears you down and you know it is always the same people. Life as you know is too short to deal with these type's of people.
The way I look at it is that you have a choice every day , to either be in a good mood or be in a bad mood, and it is a choice my friends. I choose to be in a good mood every day and to enjoy each day to the fullest. So I challenge each of you to do the same , choose to be in a good mood, not let other people bring you down and live each day like it's your last.
Have a great day today and tomorrow and the day after that !!!!!!!!!!!!!

SUMMER
Well it finally feels like summer. Back in our house, the little pool is set up, the kids are having fun and driving their mom crazy- like kids do and of course we have the Snowcone/Lemonade stand that the girls love to set up-- but they are not big fans of tearing it down.
I have to say that I absolutely love warm summer mornings and summer evenings, there is nothing else like it !!! I mean, driving with the windows down in the evening, a song comes on the radio and then BAM !! just like that your mind takes you back in time , I just love it when that happens.
We are finally done with our garage sale- took two saturdays, but it was worth it. We got rid of everything we wanted to get rid of, now we have some stuff for the goodwill and we will have one dump run. It was looking like 2 or 3 dump runs before the garage sale.
We had a great weekend, Erin's parents came down on friday night to see the house and then they stayed around on saturday and helped with the garage sale. It was great to see them and to spend some time with them at our house. We can't wait to go back to the lake in a few weeks and spend some more quality time with them.
Saturday night was wonderful, went to art show/ concert at a pretty cool venue. Went to support Erin's friend Amy and her very first art show. Linda Hornbuckle was performing outside, singing the blues and with the river in the back ground and the warm breeze, it was just a great night. Heck, even Erin got out on the grass and did some dancing, which is rare.
So once again, I am reminded how lucky I am. With a wonderful wife, great kids, great family and of course great friends !!!!!
So get out there and enjoy this wonderful Summer that we are having !! Take in an outdoor concert and spend some quality time with your family and friends !!!

4th of July
So we did our annual 4th of July at the lake. Erin's parents live on a wonderful lake up in Washington and this year the weather was awesome !!! They have a great fireworks show on the 3rd of july and then on the 4th, we ( well Scott- Erin's brother) puts on a great fireworks show at the dock- which this year, was without a doubt , the best show ever.
There is nothing like chillin at the lake, not a care in the world, sunshine, a couple of adult beverages and no cell phones !!!!!!!
I think that the weather this 4th was the best ever. It is always good to have some time to hang out with my brother in law, he is just a good guy and funny too.
I hope everyone had a great 4th, this is a crazy week for us, Erin is helping out at the church this week for the kids club, leading the kids worship opening and closing every day.
Hopefully, we will have a garage sale this weekend, so we can start to get out garage back.
Have a great day and God Bless

Fast Weekend
Wow- that was a fast weekend. After not sleeping on a memory foam mattress, it was absolutely wonderful to finally be back sleeping on one. Our new mattress arrived on Friday and the last three nights I have had the best sleep in month's. It is amazing how much better and rested I feel.
So it is only a four day work week- followed by a three day weekend, which is AWESOME !!!!
Heading up to the lake this weekend for some sun, some wave runner riding and most importantly- RELAXATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So as you know , we are back in our house and had lots of work to do this weekend. We had to get the kid's beds out of the house and upstairs entertainment center as well.. Thanks to my buddy- Glenn- who came over and helped on saturday night- take down the beds and the entertainment center and get them out of the house. Glenn was a huge help and I definetly owe him a couple of favors. So then with the beds out of the house, we had to put the girl's new beds together-- this was fairly easy, but as always there is a hic up. We had to run out and buy new box springs mattress for the girls ( don't ask). But finally after all the running around, their new beds are set up and look great. Erin did a great job picking out their new beds and I am sure they will be very happy and surprised when they see them Tuesday night.
Sunday, my wife again ( as always) did a wonderful job singing at the worship service, she is an amazing singer !!!!!!
So we are still dealing with a few small issues with all the repairs, and that is as expected when you have a fire, I am confident that it will all be fixed to our standards. Cornerstone has done a great job and I know they will finish it the right way.
We are truly blessed with the way things have turned out and I thank Giod every day for all that we have.
Have a great day
Enjoy the sunshine !!!!!!!!

Crazy Day & Draft Day
Wow, so what a day yesterday. Farrah passes away in the morning and then Michael in the late afternoon. So I was a HUGE Farrah fan when I was younger ( what young boy wasn't) and yes, I did have the famouse poster, which I don't think my mom really liked to much, but she never said a thing about it. As for Michael, I like his music and his videos were totally break thru and fascinating, he was a total inovator for the muisc video form. Sad that they have passed, but when it is your time to go, I beleive that there is nothing you can do about it.
Now onto the big topic - NBA Draft Day. The Blazers made some good decisions yesterday and have positioned themselves very nicely for the free agent signing period which begins on July 8th. They gor rid of Sergio, which was a good move and it needed to be done. They also freed up some money ( for them to sign a free agent) by drafting a player from Spain, who will not be here for at least 2 years, so again, it frees up some more money. I believe that the Blazers will add a great veteran player to their roster and continue to improve the team.
Have a great weekend, enjoy the sunshine and take the time to appreciate the people that you love- you never know when the good lord will call them home !!

GREAT HELPERS
Well last night we had to move the piano from the rental to our house. So with the help of some good buddies, Scott from next door ( who provided the dollies) Logan from next door, Eric Carlson and Glenn Moe, we got the piano moved safely. You know who your friends are when you need help with things and without them helping, the piano would still be in the rental.
So thanks guys and thanks for helping move the boxes out of the garage and down to our house, that was HUGE.
So the blinds are all in now, the only thing left is the mattresses which will be there on friday, so only one more night of sleeping on the pull out bed !!!!!
It is amazing how much work has been done allready with moving back in and yet we still have alot to do. Oh well, as the Rolling Stones say " time is on our side.
HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!

Stuff
Wow- I seriously forget how much stuff that Serve-Pro took from the house after the fire.
Erin is opening all the boxes of the stuff that they took away and cleaned, and let me say that our garage sale pile is HUGE. We have found out that you can get by without so much stuff. So then I began to think ( I know- scary thought), but why do people have so much stuff. Stuff that they don't use that often or really don't need at all. We all buy things that we will only use one time or NEVER use them at all. It is a lot of work and again my wife is doing a great job and doing most of the work, while I am stuck here at the office. So hopefully I have learned a lesson and will not just buy stuff to have it. Wish me luck on that.
So sometime in the next few weeks we will be having a garage sale, stay tuned people and I will let you know the date.
So get out there and enjoy the sunshine and this wonderful day !!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT WEEKEND
All in all it was a great weekend. It sure didn't start out that way, but it ended up being great.
First of all GEORGE MORLAN may be the water heater king of Portland, but ask for help on a faucet part and it is a whole different story. The sales rep that tried to help us was worthless and his buddy was just as bad. First off, the dude says to my wife, I have friday fevor and I just want to get out of here. So Erin had to give the dude a pep talk to, are you kidding me ?
So then we tell the guy what we need and just because it is a DELTA faucet, you would have thought we had the world's worst faucet. I could go on and on about how worthles the guys was, but the bottom line is that we came out of their with nothing and have no plans to go back.
Saturday was a great day. Got the day started with a nice family breakfast at the Wichita Pub in Clackamas (GREAT FOOD) then we headed out to pick up our new couch- thanks to Eric Carlson for loaning us his pick-up and for helping unload when we got home. So it is a 3 piece sectional with a pull out bed. Anyways- the dude's loading it getting in the pick up and we strap it down ( or so we think), as soon as we get on the freeway, Erin looks back and says - pull over !!
The sleep piece had tipped and was almost falling out of the truck, luckily there was one more ty down in the truck ,so we used that over the top and the problem was fixed.
Got the couch home and then moved the dinning table from the garage into the dinning area. So let me say again- my wife Erin did an AMAZING job of picking out the right colors and furniture for the house
Then it was off to the softball tourney, where the girls played probably their best game of the year, but lost to Molalla 6-4. We did win the second game against Beavercreek, so that meant we played on Sunday at 11 am.
So on Sunday we show up and guess what. The other team no- shows , so we get the win by forfeit and move on to the 3 pm game. So we shoot home, have lunch, move a few more things in the house and then head back to the field. Where we get beat 14-6 and are eliminated from the tourney. All in all, it was about what I expected. We did the best that we could with the talent that we had- just keeping it real folks.
So we headed home and had dinner in our house - the first meal in our house since we had lunch on January 31st- the day of the fire. So with the girls having air mattress blown up in the playroom and the couch having a pull out bed, we decided to spend the night there. We should have our new mattres's on thursday. We just hung out and watched TV and we knew we were finally home. It just felt comfortable.
So today (Monday 6/22/09) they are starting to bring back our stuff that has been cleaned, so by the end of the week, we should have all of your stuff back and start to settle in in this week.
Have a great day !!!!!!!!!!!

GETTING CLOSER
So we are getting so close to moving back into our house, that I just wish we were back in it now.
Amazing how when it seems that there isn't that much left to do, that you find out that there are a lot of little things that still need to be done. Busy weekend ahead, season ending softball tournament, gotta pick up a couch between games and hopefully we will be able to start sleeping in our house on saturday night. The in-laws might come down and check out the house and the tourney. Looking forward to a great fun filled weekend !!!!!!!!

RANDOM THOUGHTS
Sometime things just don't go as planned. Every time that this happens to me, it reminds me that everything is on GOD'S time, not our time, as the saying goes- WE PLAN AND GOD LAUGHS. So instead of getting upset about it, I just move on.
So do you ever wonder if you are making the right decisions when it comes to raising kids.
There are so many decisions that you make each and every day when you are raising kids that all you can do is beleive that you are making the correct decision and then stand by your decison.
I always wonder why some people take everything so seriously ? Why are some people workaholics ? I think people don't take enough time to enjoy and appreciate life. I know that we are all busy with our lives, but seriously everyone needs to slow down a little. Unless a tragedy happens to slow you down, most of us are always in hurry. Those tragedies remind us about what is important to us. wow- I am getting way to heavy, sorry about that.
So for those of you that know me, you know that I do not take things that serious, it is just not in my nature to worry about things. I always have beleived that everything will work and most of the time it does.
Do you ever notice that it always the same people that have drama in their lives over and over again. I have no time for the drama.
I wonder where the sun is today ? Looks like a typical June gloom day here in Oregon.
So we are getting closer by the day to moving back in our house, and we will be so glad, it has been over 5 1/2 months since we had the house fire. The kids handled it very well, however by now they are totally ready to get back to their bedrooms, now that they have been re-painted and redecorated.
My wife ( Erin) has been the one dealing with the insurance lady, and I cannot thank here enough for this. Erin picked out all the paint colors, the carpet , the floors , the granite, the cabinets- so basically she has done almost all of it. I got the flat screen that I wanted, and the couch- so I'm good. Seriously people, my wife has worked her ass off and done an amazing job. Our house looks so awesome and so different than it used to. Still, I would not want anyone I know to have to go thru what we went thru. It has been an incredible experience, but once in a lifetime is more than enough.
I cannot thank our friends enough who helped us out during this process. First off, my neighbor Scott who was the one who discovered the fire and called 911. He bascially saved our house from burning completely down. I can't thank him enough. The Carlsons were HUGE when the fire happened, the took us in and made us feel at home and they did not even complain that we smelled like smoke. You really find out who you can count on during tough times. There are many more to thank, our church was wonderful and they really helped us with meals that people brought over when we moved into the rental house. That was so huge, you have no idea.
We got lucky by being able to rent a house on our same street, just on the other side of my neighbor Scott. So we have been able to look in and watch the process of our house being put back together, which has been nice. One good thing that has come out of this , is that we have got to know Sunshine Buzo and her kids alot better. Her husband Chris has been away in Idaho, because he was called up by the Navy . So we are looking forward to getting to know him better when he gets done with his service.
Why is it that is the same people over and over again that play the role of the martyr ??
I wish that there were more positive people in the world, because there are more than enough negative people out there that try to bring everyone around them down.
No time for negative people.
Have a great day.

MORE
Ok, a little bit more about me.. I am a very lucky man, I am married to the love of my life, I have 2 wonderful daughters, I have a great job, all in all I count my blessings each day. I have one brother and one sister and my mom. My dad passed away a year and a half ago and their is not a day that goes by when I don't think about him , I really miss him. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, our family goes to Eastridge Church in Clackamas, ( check it out on sundays- it rocks and we have an amazing female singer ). I have a lot of good friends and even some great friends. I have wonderful neighbors and some really cool people that live on our street. I have a great brother in-law and great in-laws. I am a positive person, I always think and beleive that things will work out. My faith keeps me going each day, I have always had faith , even when I wasn't attending church. I can honestly say that my life began to turn around when I started going to church. Shortly there after, I met my wife and her girls, and started to attend church with her, this was my first church outside of the Catholic church that I had ever attended. It was a whole new experience for me and I found I really enjoyed her church. Then after we became engaged, she moved down to Oregon ( from Gig Harbor, WA ) and we started to attend Eastridge Church, which has been wonderful. My wife is an AMAZING singer , If I could only sound half as good as her, I would start my own rock band( I know I am dreaming). Our girls are wonderful, and the keep us on the move with soccer, piano, basketball, softball and other social activities. So as I said - I am a very lucky man with a wonderful life and a wonderful wife !!!!!!!!
New World

So the sun is shinning , it is another beautiful day here in Oregon.
